The 2020 Starboard 9’5 Wide Point in Starlite is a paddle board which performs at its best in a wide range of surf. A SUP which has become renowned for its ability to effortlessly handle wave large or small, the sure footed 9’5 Wide Point is stable due its 32” width and yet highly responsive. Well suited for paddlers up to 100kg, Starboard 9'5 Wide Point for 2020 has enough length overall to work as an all-rounder for smaller paddlers. We are very excited to see the return of the 9’5 Wide Point to the 2020 Starboard range and very confident it will once again be a best seller.
The Starboard 9’5 Widepoint, at first glance, looks like a typical allrounder. It is, however, primarily a surf SUP, with numerous features gearing it towards surfing big waves – chief among these is the squared off ‘pintail’ tail which allows the board to hold tight to the water giving a cleaner release edge as you blast down waves.
This is complemented by the nose, which is pulled in slightly – great for dealing with hollow sections, and fine rails towards the front which allow for smooth entry and acceleration. The underside of the Starboard 9’5 Widepoint features a ‘continuous mono-concave’, which is key in generating lift and speed – when combined with the V shaped tail and thruster fin setup, we find ourselves a board that is not only fast on bigger waves, but extremely agile, able to perform smooth rail-to-rail carving and aggressive cutbacks.
The Starboard 9’5 Widepoint Starlite employs Starboard’s ‘Starlite’ construction – meaning that the hull is wrapped in a combination of different fibreglass densities, providing the bulk of the board’s strength and durability. The standing area is reinforced by a 0.6mm layer of Australian Pine, increasing deck impact resistance and contributing to the overall rigidity of the board. The Starboard 9’5 Widepoint Starlite is further reinforced along the rails with a high grade, woven, Carbon Innegra, to maximise impact resistance and hull strength. In boards under 10 foot, additional glass reinforcements and Carbon stringers are added to the rail, to further bolster the board’s strength. The result is a board that is, at once, lightweight and well protected from scratches and dings.
Starlite construction also utilises a fully plant based Bio resin infusion, maintaining superior performance with a lower impact on the environment. In addition, Starboard use inverted EVA deck pads to avoid waste, meaning every second board will have a reverse colour combination from what is featured. So not only is the Starboard 9’5 Widepoint Starlite super strong and lightweight – it’s also kinder on the environment!
